Let’s look at the top trends for this year, I will tell you how i know these trends and how can you style them according to your personality.
One of the standout trends is the balloon skirt. It indicates playfulness and is perfect for those who want to create a statement look. We’ve seen balloon skirts in Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2024 (SS24) collections, and they’ve even made their way into celebrity closets. Stars like Emma Stone, Zendaya have been spotted wearing them. If you’re looking to embrace this trend, Zara has already started featuring balloon skirts in their new collections (I always keep an eye on their latest drops since they’re so quick to reflect runway styles!).
Remember the dropped waist from the early 2000s? Well, it’s back, and in a big way! Prada, Gucci, and Saint Laurent all showcased dropped waist silhouettes in their SS24 collections. Kendall Jenner wore a dropped waist dress from Givenchy for the post Met Gala 2024 party.
Denim never goes out of style, but this year, it’s all about the long dark denim slit skirt. Diesel, Levi’s, and AGOLDE have led the charge with these edgy yet versatile pieces on the runway.
Waistcoats are another trend that will have a major moment in 2024. From Burberry to Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren, the SS24 collections have embraced this tailored, chic piece. Influencers like Chiara Ferragni are also pairing waistcoats with everything from balloon skirts to jeans, and it’s easy to see why. A waistcoat can instantly add a polished touch to any outfit.
Polo dresses are making a comeback this year as a perfect blend of preppy and casual. Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Gant have all included these in their SS24 collections. Whether for brunch or a day at the park, polo dresses are a versatile piece you’ll want in your closet.
Leopard print continues to reign as a timeless trend. In 2024, it’s made its mark not just on the runway but also in celebrity street style. Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Bieber have all been seen embracing leopard print in bold, head-turning ways. Zara and ASOS are both featuring this print in various styles.
Cherry red leather is also very in these days. Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Dua Lipa have all been seen in cherry red leather pieces. It looks very bold and powerful. H&M had a perfect co-ord set of it but it got out of stock so fast.
Fashion weeks and runways are often where trends begin, following the “trickle-down theory.” This means that high fashion designers set the stage, and over time, these trends make their way to fast-fashion retailers like Zara and H&M, making them more accessible to the everyday shopper.
Whether it’s a cherry red leather jacket or a balloon skirt, once we see our favourite stars wearing these pieces, they quickly become “must-haves.”
Vogue, Elle, the lifestyle journalist and Harper’s Bazaar have been highlighting these trends in their 2024 issues. Fashion magazines are a great way to stay ahead of the curve and see which trends are gaining momentum.
I always open Zara’s app to see what’s next in fashion. They’re incredibly fast at picking up on runway trends and adapting them for the everyday shopper.
